Some seniors find relief through acupuncture from various aches and pains in their lower back and other joints, especially those resulting from arthritis. This procedure also provides some with relief from headaches, migraines in particular, and general feelings of malaise.

How to Find a Reputable Acupuncturist

The obvious methods are searching online or looking through the local phone book. You can also ask family and friends if they know someone they can recommend. Be careful about checking their credentials and ask them for referrals before making a choice. If your state requires that acupuncturists be licensed then make sure you sue you see their license and certification before having any procedures completed.

Preparating for the Appointment

Before your first appointment, ask about payments and figure out if your insurance covers the procedures. Medicare and Medicaid do not often cover acupuncture, but your have supplemental insurance policy might. A reputable center will likely work with you to determine the best option for you from a financial perspective.

Once you are at your first appointment, ask the provider how many sessions (s)he thinks it might take before you can expect results. You or your caregiver should also ask about how you will feel afterwards and if there are any necessary precautions to follow after the procedures are complete.
